Scientific Assistant (24-month Fixed Term Contract)
Tropic
We are looking for an enthusiastic Scientific Assistant, who is passionate about genome-editing technologies and their real-world applications, to join the Platform Department on a 24-month contract. You will assist with all aspects of the design and detection of gene editing strategies, for experimental and product development approaches.
Role Purpose
The Platform Department provides technical and scientific leadership to support bioinformatics, gene expression, rapid cell-based assays, synthetic biology and molecular analysis efforts at Tropic, acting as a focal point between technology development and plant biology. You will design assays to detect, use diverse sequencing technologies to characterize and analyze complex data sets to interpret gene editing experiments for our internal Crop Biotechnology clients, with the expert support of our Genotyping Team.
The successful candidate will be trained by leading scientists in a rapidly developing area of synthetic biology.
Key Responsibilities
- You will perform key genotyping tasks such as genomic DNA extraction, PCR/qPCR assay design, and next generation/Sanger sequencing.
- You will supervise liquid handlers for automated and semi-automated processes. With the support of the Genotyping Team Lead, you will formally report relevant scientific findings and technical updates to our stakeholders in a clear, precise, and concise manner.
- At the discretion of the Genotyping Team Lead, you will support key gene expression and cloning tasks such as vector design, assembly and QC.
